My Internet Business Strategy

My Internet business strategy will be based on the information I found in the Rich Schefren Manifesto, The Final Chapter and the Missing Chapter documents. I have spent about six months surfing the Web trying to find something I can use that would give me direction and purpose if I am to build a strong Internet Business. I stumbled across the Manifesto and after reading through it several times realised, as many other people did, that this was something special.

Single Page “Essence Diagrams”

I took to heart his ideas for starting, building and then growing a business. I also decided I would try to reduce the content of each document to a single page as he states in one of his presentations. This page gives me the “essence” of each document or presentation Rich creates. I call them “Essence Diagram” because they are designed to give me just that. I want to put on  a single page the most important parts of his documents or presentations. Then at a glance I can recall much of the content of what Rich had said about any topic. Remember though these “Essence Diagrams” are what I believe to be the important things from Rich’s documents. You may not agree.

Lost in Internet Space

Reading the three documents and listening to audio and watching videos that Rich has made, I realised I really could not create an Internet Business in reasonable time doing it all alone. My original idea was to run up three or four web sites and sell some products. But after six months of hard work just trying to learn what is going on in the Internet Business World I discovered I was spending many hours a week just wandering aimlessly around and not really achieving much. I was lost in “Internet Space”.

Need for a Strategy to focus my efforts

I knew I needed a strategy to focus my efforts but much of what is available under the topic of Internet Business is really short term Web sites designed to push the latest “Hot” Product. Indeed this site is basically doing that because that was all I knew when I started out. I hope to get better at this. I began by focusing on just creating Web sites so I could learn the mechanics of doing this. I feel better knowing I have some idea of what is involved. But this may well not be the best use of my time based on my Magic Number according the Rich!

Magic Number

It is one of Rich’s key business parameters for me to decide what I should be doing with my time. Should I be designing Web sites when I will probably be much better off developing my business strategy. I thought I should learn something about each process first. But take a look at my version of Rich’s “12 Critical Areas of Business” block diagram on all that you need to do to run a successful Internet business. I realised that by the time I learned enough of each process I’d be too old to be bothered with developing an Internet business. What might take me an hour to do, a person skilled in say, Web Design may do in ten minutes. So outsourcing makes alot of sense to me. If I can get ten articles created for a few dollars by outsourcing vs. me spending hours doing it then that too may be a better use of my time. Also learning to outsource and build a team of specialists I can work with to implement my business strategy will be a better use of my time.

Getting started - Just Do It!

It was very difficult to get started. it was much easier to surf the net looking at some new possiblity rather than focus on what I needed to do to move my business forward. Rich mentioned many times we should take action and just do it! Even if our first attempts are way off. Well this is my “take action and just do it” Web site.
