Turbo-Charging Affiliate Marketing - Using Software to Increase the Keywords and Tightly Group them

Seven Steps to Turbo-Charge Your Affiliate Marketing with Google Adwords

Step 4: Increasing my Keywords using different software products

A Quick review of where I’m at

I‘ve added a few hundred keywords to my Ad Groups and have been checking the results. So far they are not good. I’ll give the details below. It was a time consuming process and the only tool that really saved me time is called Keyword Companion. It is very similar  to Brad Cullen’s Keyword Elite but has one additional feature which I find invaluable. I can create my Ad Groups within the program and they are added as “Tabs” at the top of the program window. As I set up my Ad Groups I can go back and review them. I don’t think in straight lines. I cannot create one Ad Group from a list of say 1,000 keyword phrases and then the next and the next.

I create what looks right and then as I create more Ad Groups and become more familiar with the keywords in the list I realise I may need to cancel or merge Ad Groups or move some keywords between Ad Groups. KWC enables me to do this quickly and easily.

A Warning about Keyword Companion

Even though I think the program is great there is one major problem with it. There might as well be no support at all for this excellent product. It was developed by a guy called Richard East when he was living in Romania. He is an IM Guru by all accounts who produces good articles and information about Internet Marketing and is listened to by the IM community. But since he moved to India KWC has virtually stopped. I’ve been trying for a week to get responses to my questions. I’ve had two responses from oms3.com support in India reassuring me all is well, but they have not answered all my questions and have failed to response since. It is a real shame this software is not actively supported. At $444.00 for KWC with the Google API and the Landing Page Plug-ins it does represent good value to me. But lack of support means I do not recommend you buy it.

The Other software I used

I have tried out Keyword Elite and found it to be an excellent product except it does not have the ability to handle multiple Ad Groups like KWC does. It does have some really nice features but the multiple Ad Groups in KWC make it a better product for me to use.  I may still end up with it though because Brad Cullen’s response to my questions was prompt and informative.

Adword Accelerator is good for Google keyword searches and for finding out the bids for those keywords for the first 10 positions on the Google Sponsored Links. I also liked the fact it you could search for Keywords within a Bid price. This would then only display Ads within those Bids. This gave me a sense of what I’d be getting if I bid those amounts. Although the Bid Amounts were not always what occured in practice I did get a feel for the cost. It is worth just watching the video demonstrations on the Web page too. It is a monthly service though but at $27.95 is not too bad.

The Mind Valley “The Winners Playbook” is quite good value. It includes some bonuses that go into detail using case studies on various keyword campaigns. However I did not get the download page in my email. I finally got an email back from one of the guys giving me the page. I have downloaded and read all the PDFs and the content is good. The problem is with the Adwords Optimizer software they offer. Google has stopped them using the software for some reason. They are in discussions now with Google to fix the problem. But that means I cannot use the AdWord Optimiser so I’ll probably ask for a refund if it is not turned back on since that was one of the main reasons for the purchase. This has delayed the v7 release of this product too.

The 37 Killer Adwords is also very good. But it is really an extension of the 25 case studies in Mind Valley as far as I can tell. That does not devalue the content though.

I still have to work through the other items in the list. But the ones above gave me lots of ideas and I certainly believe I have learnt alot about keyword selection and grouping. At least now I have some idea of how to go about it. Okay my results may not show it. But I still have time to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Now for my Results since adding more Keywords

Here are the Keyowrd Results for the last week since I added a few hundred keywords. It has actually got worse. The CPC has increased from 0.65 to 0.69 and the Avg Pos has dropped from 15.1 to 21.1. So I need to find out what I can do about that. The CTR on the affiliate webite Ad Group has gone up though.

Keyword Results for Affiliate Website

The Results for the Keywords in the Ad Group Affiliate Websites  have gotten worse. The Avg CPC is now 0.71 and was 0.44 for a similar number of Impressions. So I must have upset Google in some way or they do not like my landing pages and content pages. I’ll have to work through that this week.

Changing the Ads

I have changed the Ads and tried to improve them after reading the recommendations and suggestions in the documents I purchased. But I obviously need to work on them even more. I may need to do this several times before seeing any improvement.  I’ll go over all the material again to understand more about the essense of what has to be done to create a successful Ad.

Plans for this week

I need to review why my CPC has increased and see if I can reduce it down again. I need to add even more long tailed keyword phrases too. I may need to drop some of the expensive keywords I’m using if I want to stay in the game. I won’t proceed to the next step until I see some success with the Ad Campaign or I’ll review the whole thing. I will get in touch with Derrick VanDyke and see what he can do to advise me.
